Learn the basics of lacto-fermentation (brining) as a form of food preservation, bring fermented food to swap and meet accomplished author and DIY maven Kate Payne (author of two Hip Girls Guide Books) at this super affordable event.
Lacto-fermented foods provide numerous health benefits using lactobacillus bacteria to preserve food as opposed to vinegar. Kate will do an introductory demonstration showing how to make a small batch of cultured seasonal veggies in a fermented brine using FARMcurious’ new Fermenting set with ReCap and will show additional brining methodology.
Feel free to bring something you’ve fermented to share with the group!
Kate will have copies of her new book, which includes a handful of fermented recipes and other kitchen wisdom, for sale and signing at the event.
Location: This class is held at 247 Marlow Drive in Oakland (2 miles from BART but with ample parking in a safe, historic neighborhood).
