Backyard Chickens Class February 23, 2013 11am-1pm (with no egg tray included)

$34.00

One part learning, one part meeting like-minded individuals and one part culinary delight, this class will inspire you to raise your own backyard flock and reap the tasty benefits!

PLEASE NOTE: THIS TICKET IS FOR JUST THE CLASS WITHOUT THE CERAMIC EGG TRAY.  We realized that perhaps not all of our students were as interested in the egg tray so we’ve shaved a little off the price of the class for those who choose to opt out of the tray.  To order the tickets that include both the class and ceramic tray, please click here.

Raising backyard chickens is all the rage, with their delicious farm-fresh eggs and quirky personalities.  Perhaps you’re one of the many who dream of a lush garden full of vegetables and cooing chickens who gobble up bugs like it’s their job.  If so, you might want to come learn the good, the bad and the ugly about raising chickens before you jump in full throttle.

This class will cover breed selection, caring for chickens throughout their life cycle, food, water and space requirements, disease prevention, coop design and legal issues you may run into.

Delicious egg toppings to enjoy!

Adding a culinary component to the class, we’ll compare backyard eggs to store-bought and demonstrate the little-known secret to peeling a farm fresh egg.  We’ll also discuss how to use your new ceramic egg carton (to order the tickets that include the egg carton with the class, click here) to store eggs or present a gorgeous edible egg display.

After the class, the group has an option to make a trip to the nearby Mike’s Feed in San Leandro to check out their stock, see their chicks and enjoy a 10% discount for the entire class.
